What to do in case of an accident?

  1. All emergency measures must be taken to eliminate or prevent any further losses;
  2. Immediately report to the Police or draw up the agreed statement;;
  3. No repair or dismantling of a vehicle is allowed until the expert appointed by the Insurer has inspected the vehicle;
  4. Within 3 (three) working days from the moment of occurrence of the Insured Event: :
      • a special application form shall be filled in (click HERE to get an application) and submitted to AAS “Gjensidige Baltic” in person; 
      • or an application form shall be filled at the co-operation partner’s service (except the vehicle has been stolen)*;
      • or the Insured event shall be reported on website (except the vehicle has been stolen)*.

*In case of theft or burglary the applications are accepted at all AAS „Gjensidige Baltic” branch offices throughout Latvia; in Riga: Brivibas iela 39

      Is it necessary to report the event and which institutions to report to? 

      • Collision with another vehicle

      Collision of two or more vehicles regardless of whether they were moving or not. All vehicles are known.

      The agreed statement shall be filled in (if only two vehicles are involved and it is permitted by the law (refer to section on Agreed statements)) or it shall be reported to the TRAFFIC POLICE (112)

      • Collision with an obstacle

      Driving on some object (e.g. a stone, a road edge), driving into a pothole, wall, fence, road guardrails, traffic sign etc.

      If the third person’s property (traffic sign, fence, building etc.) is not damaged and no people have suffered, it shall not be reported to the TRAFFIC POLICE.  If the damage or injury has occurred it shall be reported to the TRAFFIC POLICE (112)

      • Running over a pedestrian or an animal
      Running over a pedestrian or an animal has occurred.

      • If running over a pedestrian has occurred – it shall be reported to the TRAFFIC POLICE (112)
      • If running over an animal has occurred – it shall be reported to the POLICE (112) and a forester shall be informed (usually the Police informs the respective forest service)

      • Overturn, fall

      A vehicle has run off the road and turned over or fallen off the bridge, embankment.

      If the third person’s property is not damaged and no people have suffered, it shall not be reported to the POLICE, if the damage or injury has occurred – it shall be reported to the POLICE (112)

      • Established damage

      For instance, upon leaving your house you establish that your vehicle in the parking lot has been dented or scraped and the guilty person has left the place of accident and cannot be established.

      It shall be reported to the POLICE (112) (without reporting not more than 1500 EUR will be paid out once per the validity of the insurance contract)

      • Illegal activities of third persons  

      For instance, broken windows, damaged vehicle body or some other damage.

      It shall be reported to the POLICE (112) (without reporting not more than 1500 EUR will be paid out once per the validity of the insurance contract)

      • Car robbery

      For instance, mirrors, parking sensors, lights, wheels, audio player (you have to provide the Insurer with the panel) and other parts stolen from a vehicle.

      It shall be reported to the POLICE (112)
      • Impact of falling objects

      The vehicle has been damaged by falling objects, for example, due to construction works; snow or ice sliding off the roof; a falling tree, etc.

      It shall be reported to the MUNICIPAL POLICE or other competent institution (for example, State Police)

      • Impact of natural disasters

      Vehicle doors bent during the storm or a tree or its twigs have fallen on a vehicle, vehicle body damaged by hail, damages caused of a lightning stroke, floods have damaged a parker vehicle.

      It shall not be reported to the POLICE

      • Sinking and/or breaking through the ice if such is directly related to a road traffic accident

      As a result of a road traffic accident a vehicle has run off the road and fallen into a watercourse.

      If the third person’s property is not damaged and no people have suffered, it shall not be reported to the POLICE, if the damage or injury has occurred – it shall be reported to the POLICE (112)

      • Explosion

      A vehicle has exploded or is damaged from explosion of an adjacent object.

      It shall be reported to the State Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) and POLICE (112)

      • Fire

      A vehicle has caught fire or is damaged from an adjacent burning object.

      It shall be reported to the State Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) and POLICE (112)

      • Vehicle theft/burglary
      A vehicle is stolen. It shall be reported to the POLICE (112)
